My Ego craves notice
and fame.
My Pride wants to hear it anonymously, and third-person.
My Id needs to overhear the compliments someone tells another. Notice but no spotlight.

It was hard work learning to just STAND and FACE A CROWD after a song or show and allow the audience to applaud and acknowledge our competence, ability, and talent.
The 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' gets the most honor.
